About Me

About Me

My name is Penelope Haulotte. I am a recent graduate of the philosophy Ph. D. program at the University of New Mexico with a certificate in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. I have two arcs to my research (1) historical research into modern German philosophy running from Leibniz to Hegel, and (2) contemporary interventions into the philosophy of sex and gender, and in particular, the phenomenology of trans experience. I am one of the co-founders of The Karasu Society, an independent organization for the advancement of philosophy in Albuquerque, NM. I was the managing editor of TSQ: Transgender Studies Quarterly from 2022-2023, and I am currently an associate editor at Fichteana, an annual online publication devoted to new scholarship on Johann Gottlieb Fichte founded by Daniel Breazeale. Fichteana publishes reviews and information about the latest Fichte editions, books, conferences, and calls for papers. My work has been published in TSQ, Feminist Philosophy Quarterly, and Idealistic Studies.

I am a proud gay trans Texan woman who learned to love philosophy at a small liberal arts college. We did not have specialists in my areas of interest, but I was constantly amazed by the lengths my professors would go to further my education and feed my passion. My aim in life is to continue to give to others the great gift that was given to me. I aim to be broadly educated in the history of philosophy, emulating my own very accommodating and flexible teachers.
